GET TO KNOW: Artist Nate Otto

Nate Otto’s artwork is steeped in his city. Often covered in buildings, it’s been described as “Chicago style.” Asked why, Otto skips the “no ketchup” jokes and suggests it might have to do with the buildings, or maybe it’s the accessibility. “I think my work doesn’t require a lot of explanation to be enjoyed and Chicago is a no-nonsense city,” he says. Whatever the reason, when it came time to select an artist to paint a mural at our Chicago Guideshop location, Otto was a natural choice. We sat down to learn more about all those little buildings and what inspires them. GET TO KNOW: Artist Nate Otto

GET TO KNOW: Graffiti Artist J.C. Rivera

Artist J.C. Rivera is a master of many mediums. He’s a trained fine artist first, then a graphic designer, cartoonist, toy designer and finally, a mural artist. His colorful abstract public works have recently earned him city and corporate commissions, over 18 thousand Instagram fans (@jcrivera) and respect from both his street-art peers and high-profile art collectors alike. We chat with the Puero Rican transplant as he puts the finishing touches on the art piece he’s painting outside our new flagship guideshop in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago. DEFINE YOUR INTERIOR: Style Sheet Series, Part II

This week, we roll out the second installment of our How Do You Define Your Interior? style sheet series collab with NYC-based interior designer Jessica Lynn Williams. For the first style sheet, she crafted an interiors scheme for a West Coast family with midcentury affinities. But this time, she didn’t have to look far at all for inspiration—choosing to create a living room layout for a 20-something professional girl’s apartment in the city. Williams started with Interior Define’s Rose sofa—a slightly romantic but not too frilly piece in a warm neutral hue—and added interest with shiny brass pendant lights, a whimsical art series and sophisticated coffee table. Here at ID, we keep tabs on trends. And not just in the realm of furniture; many times, what’s hot in the fashion world dictates the direction of the home decor industry as well. And denim absolutely ruled the runways in Paris during the Spring/Summer 2015 shows. So we’ve asked Chicago-based stylist and fashionista Heidy Best of BeClothesMinded (rocking some dark wash skinnies herself) to pull some apparel pieces inspired by her favorite indigo and denim-look Interior Define sofa and chair designs.
